When the weather conditions get rough there is no substitute for wellington boots. Other waterproof materials have been developed to compete with the old stalwart known as rubber, but when the ground is soaked there is no substitute for the impenetrable rubber overlay. Gore-Tex and other water repelling fabrics are an excellent way to hedge your bets against a typical onslaught of rain or snow, but when the conditions get down and dirty it is better to be prepared for the worst.
Natural occurrences are one of the unanticipated surprises of everyday life. Don’t find yourself unprepared for the situation year after year. What kind of fool would a bootless individual be if he or she allowed repeated foot soakings? The guy who shops for an air-conditioner on the third day of a dramatic heat wave is not going to find one. So is the story with protective footwear. Why not just get on board with the concept and be prepared for the worst?
There are other defenses that will help assuage the impact of foul weather, but none are as fundamental as a good pair of shoes. There might be a class of people that actually enjoy a wet foot, but the idea is not a mainstream concept that is endorsed by many. Unless you are such an individual there will be little sympathy to be garnered when the hurricane hits and you are standing there bawling in your canvas sneakers.
